Apple Wanted the iPhone SE 4 to Launch With   Its Own 5G Chip

A recent report claims that Apple has formerly canceled the coming- generation iPhone SE, and while the information is yet to be verified, it looks like the demise of this device would also impact the rest of the iPhone as well.

This is because the iPhone SE 4 was supposed to be the first model in Apple’s lineup equipped with the company’s veritably own 5G chip.

It’s not a secret that Apple wants to reduce its reliance on Qualcomm, and the debut of the iPhone SE 4 was supposed to be the first step in this regard.

But according to Apple critic Ming- Chi Kuo, killing off the iPhone SE 4 would also mean that Apple needs to stay a little bit longer before it can eventually make the switch to in- house chips for the rest of the iPhone lineup.

As a result, Qualcomm will be the big winner of this decision, despite the request prospects that the company will begin losing ground once the Apple chip makes its way to iPhones in 2024.

“ Due to enterprises that the performance of the in- house baseband chip may not be over to par with Qualcomm’s, Apple originally planned to launch its baseband chip in 2024 and let the low- end iPhone SE 4 borrow it first, and decide whether to let the iPhone 16 use its baseband chip depending on the development status of iPhone SE 4, ” Kuo explains

“ still, the cancelation of the iPhone SE 4 has significantly increased the chances of Qualcomm remaining the exclusive supplier of baseband chips for the 2H24 new iPhone 16 series, which is better than the request agreement that Qualcomm will start losing iPhone orders in 2024. ”

Qualcomm will, thus, remain a crucial player in this space, especially as Apple needs further time to bring its baseband chip to the iPhone series.
